I am someone who enjoys to work out and go the gym everyday. I always feel very empowered by the community. Your work will always be recognized and is always welcomed by people of all shapes and sizes. In this project I was tasked with making a zine of a topic of my choice and I wanted to make my work recognize the mental struggles that both men and women deal with.

The Beginning

Before we started we needed to know who are target audience is and what exactly we were trying to say.

I know that mental struggles can impact us much more than we can see. Body Dysmorphia is one of the bigger issues in the gym community that isn’t spoken about often and how they deal with it. Specifically people in their 20s as social media consumes our daily lives and it can impact how we view ourselves. So I started the conversation.

With just a few simple questions, I spoke to members in my gym community to explain their experiences with Body Dysmorphia and how they have handled it. Upon request, I redacted their names and used their stories to create the zine.

With the information I needed I started working on the design. I wanted these responses to look like journal entries. Something more personal to connect with my topic.

The words are what I believe should be the focus, so I limited my work to riso colors. This allowed me to choose from a smaller selection of colors, and be more strategic with the designs surrounding it.

Final Product.

With all of my assets completed. I finished up on Indesign and created a zine that I believe connects with me and many others.
